My parents came to see us yesterday :3 which was nice of them to drive 220 miles to pop and see us for the evening.

They came to talk about wedding things, and as my mum is helping me out with the problem of the bridesmaids dresses (or lack of) she came to look at the brochures I’ve been hoarding and to take them away with her to see what she could do.

However the subject of conversation soon turned to family attendance, as all my family live in the North, save for one uncle and his family who live in Wales, they see and talk to each other more than I do. Scott and I can’t afford to feed every single member of my family for £40 per person at the reception so we had to keep it small by only having parents, grandparents and a handful of friends at the reception and invite the rest of our families for the evening function.

Unfortunately, because of that, my family seem to have taken it as an intentional and personal insult to them. At least I think they have, I can’t think of any other reason why they’re doing this. Out of the 18 extra family members I have on my list, uncles and aunts and their children (my cousins) I already know that 14 of them have decided not to attend. One of them says they can’t get the time off work, despite the fact that I told them a year in advance of the date, and thus he, his wife and kid will not be attending. Another of them on my mum’s side has just this week conveniently booked a holiday at the same time, and apparently “he does not get to choose his time off work, his work choose it for him so he has to go on holiday then” (bullshit) so he and his family will not be attending either. Again, despite the fact they knew a year in advance. Another set of uncle/aunts has said it’s too far for them to travel, yet I have friends coming from London, Oxford, and even possibly the Netherlands and would have even had someone coming from Canada if she weren’t coming to Tokyo with us afterwards instead. I can’t see why they won’t travel a few miles down the road and I sincerely hope they realise how much my friends are putting them to shame.

Oh and as for those 4 people who make up the remainder of the 18 total, I haven’t heard anything at all from them so with the rest of my family making up excuses, it looks likely that they will find an excuse as well (maybe they will be “washing their hair” that night…)

Which leaves me totally “wtf?” at their collective lameness. I can’t believe I am even from the same blood as they are. Therefore, except for my parents, sister, and both grandma’s (who will no doubt be quite upset when they realise the whole family, namely all their children, aren’t coming) I am disowning the rest of my family ¬.¬ Or maybe they’ve already disowned me, and that’s why they’re not coming? Meh, who cares. Now more than ever I am determined to get the invites out to them so they can reply saying ‘no’. Then I have it in writing from them so I can give their places to more of our friends

And on that note, today we bought our wedding rings
