A few hours after I posted my AmeCon update on Monday, unfortunately Sora-tan became very poorly ;_;

We've had a bit of a rollercoaster ride since then, I've missed a day and a half of work, and she ended up at a rabbit specialist hospital in Bristol who did a variety of ultrasound scans, xrays, blood tests which ultimately pointed to an extremely rare liver problem. The vet (who is an absolute DIAMOND) had only ever seen about 10 such cases, with a couple more written about in veterinary literature, and most of the cases were diagnosed during post-mortems so it's not very common to catch it before it's too late. Basically it's where part of the liver tissue dies off and turns infected within the rabbit, poisoning it with leaking toxins.

Last night Sora went through a high-risk operation, the odds were less than 50/50 survival, in the hope of giving her the best chances. While she is still in the 48-hour 'danger zone' from such a major operation, she is doing very well :) I am hopeful that she won't deteriorate or catch any post-op infections, but there is no way of knowing which way it's going to go until at least tomorrow night. My little girl, although already lucky to have survived the operation, needs all the help she can get over tomorrow and the weekend  and I intend to make it so.  The vet bill has passed the £1,000 mark in 3 days, the insurance company don't yet know what is about to hit them... ^^;

You may be wondering what any of this has to do with AmeCon. Well, the bunny boarding place will not take her if she is still poorly by then, and TBH I would be uneasy about leaving her there if she was not in the best shape by Wednesday. So either me, Scott, or both of us may not be able to go if there is a poorly post-op bunny at home. As much as I love the event and would be heartbroken not to go... I love my pets more and cannot risk their health over it.

Please keep your fingers crossed for little Sora-tan that she makes a swift recovery and doesn't suffer any setbacks... I really can't bear thinking about losing her.
